Walking the Cow
YouTube frame from ukrayinets1 channel |
Our city-raised son Symon stayed a few days at a relative’s homestead in Verkhnie Syniovydne that is located in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. A high spot of his experience was taking the cow to the vacant pasture to graze among the daisies and buttercups. It seemed like a simple enough assignment, but Symon learned a thing or two along the way. It’s a good thing he had a more experienced elder to guide him through the journey. “Go!” “Go!” he shouted at the cow, and pounced on the rope from time to time. I was impressed.
This was not the Symon I knew. It was quite a different experience in the country side for Symon. Far different from playing his Wii and DS games and watching his daily diet of TV back home. He thoroughly enjoyed himself. I’m glad he did. Besides, most of the TV channels back home are fuller of manure than the lush cow pastures of Ukraine. All in all, it was a memorable time for Symon. Yahoo! Way to go cowboy!
